Civil Rights was a period in American history that changed our image, especially in south. There was lots of racial discrimination going on, and Civil Rights changed that image. Even after Civil Rights, there was still lots racial discrimination going on. Like, African Americans weren't given high position jobs. Civil Rights gave them legal rights to fight back, and government would give their support fully. During 1960s, American was going through one of the scariest times. Thats because our president Kennedy, Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. were assassinated. They both were with civil rights for African Americans. Eventually in 1964, officially government passed the "Civil Rights Act" which made racial discrimination illegal in theaters, restaurants, hotels, public places, transportation. Civil Rights started during 1957, and in 1964 it ended officially.
