Watergate

In June of 1972, Richard Nixon was involved with a scandal that stunned the nation. He was caught and arrested after breaking and entering into the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate hotel in Washington D.C. Him and his so called, "plumbers" who were in charge of plugging political leaks, tried to get away with fraud in the White House. After being caught, Nixon was also found guilty of many other charges such as espionage, sabotage, and illegal wiretapping. This scandal was huge because Americans learned that there were tricks being made in the White House. Americans felt lied to and betrayed. A president is supposed to be honest and loyal to the country he or she is leading. Nixon's actions proved that you can not always trust the one who is at the head of a country.
Richard Nixon resigned on August 9, 1974 knowing that what he had done was unacceptable. Watergate was a huge issue in American history that may sometimes be overlooked. It's impact on American's was immense. Now that this has happened, the President's actions are probably monitored a lot heavily then it did prior to the Watergate scandal. Even though it had nothing to do with war, Watergate was a big event that happened in America and it's impact changed how the White House is ran today.
