Things have got really tense since the Iraq war. Even when I watch the news, people present the Iraq news in perspective of their own opinion. I personally think that people need to be little bit more optimistic. Obviously, economically we have been suffering a setback. That doesn't necessarily mean that the war in Iraq is bad. I personally think that our main reason for war in Iraq is to catch the terrorists that are masterminding the attacks all around the world. We certainly don't want another 9/11.
But who is to say that if/when we catch these terrorists, that new terrorists won't arrise.
ReplyDeleteIt's frustrating because history has a pattern (if we examine the past). Winning wars doesn't result in any award. Perhaps making history books, and a bit of pride for the country...
Wars result in debt (from both sides).
And we have to realize that war and peacetime will always be a cycle. Unfortunately, our generation was able to witness the tail end of the peace period.
We have actually caught approximately 70% of terrorists in Iraq statistically speaking. Every time in news there is negative presented, like how many people died. But, good new is not informed in a way that bad new is presented. I have personally noticed that. It's just would be better to get rid off as many terrorists as possible before things get out of control. If we didn't go on war, then terrorists would believe that we are scared of them or something.
ReplyDeleteKunal, do you have a citation/source for the 70% number?
ReplyDeleteAlso, doesn't a number like that imply a fixed number? When probably the number is growing/changing all the time.
Just wondering...
Well, President Bush sad that in one of his speeches. But you are correct that number probably changes often. I don't think its fixed number though.
ReplyDeleteIf you look in all the news, there is always negative stuff on Iraq, like about how many people died, but did you ever consider thats it? I mean maybe there is something more that our government is trying to find out behind the curtains?
There is something that our government needs to keep an eye on, before it gets out of control. For example, where do you think all the terrorists get their weapons from?
Just wondering...
Yeah, how do we know that 70% of the terrorists don't infer to a single group? What if the 70% of terrorists is within a single terrorist organization (which could be an organization of 5 people).
ReplyDeleteI think it is impossible to eliminate all of the terrorist organizations. Maybe we should see what it is they really want...and try a different approach to "ending" terrorism. I don't know what exactly that approach is, however, it isn't what we are doing right now...because look where it's gotten us.
More that our government is trying to find out? I think as far as government goes, their is no real secret...government is money driven and power driven. That's why the United States is determined to get back to the top of the ladder of the world.
ReplyDeleteIs that what the government wants "in" on? Is dealing with the terrorist groups over weapons really a corrupt way to gain power? Has the plan backfired (as proven by 9/11)?
I don't know. Motive is what we need to figure out, we already know the reasoning.
