The first article I read is from foxnews.com. The article was on 20 killed and 52 wounded soldiers in an overnight skirmish in Sadr City. Sadr City is a anti-American stronghold and is the center of one of the militant leaders. There were conflicting views in the article itself. At one point it says that one anonymous man reported that a U.S. Stryker was damaged, yet when military officials were asked, they had no idea of that. After just a couple paragraphs, the article switches topics to a hijacked bus and British plans on suspending soldiers.

I found the second article on an international site, a Kuwait News Agency. The article was on the same topic, 20 killed and 52 wounded in Sadr City, except the number of wounded increased from 52 to 239. The entire article was smaller than the other one and was more on topic with American troops and did not go into talking about British troops.

The only similarity between the two articles is that they cover the same topic, the Sadr City clash. The differences are that one of the sites, Kuwait News Agency, is closer to the actual site of fight rather than FoxNews. Obviously, one is from Kuwait, the other from America. Neither of the articles were particularly detailed about the fight, but the Kuwait Agency actually interviwed medial doctors to find out the actual number of casulaties compared to FOXNews that received their information from an anonymous person, whose credentials we do not know.
Welcome...and initial guidelines...
This blog will be used in the spring of 2008 by 80+ students at Drexel University to investigate the effects of Iraq on culture and the reverse. Our goal will be to better understand why the US is in Iraq, and to question whether literature can help us on this journey.
Weekly plans and other materials will always be posted in Vista, not this blog. So go to Bb Vista to get the discussion prompts and other instructions.
I intend this blog to manage our discussions and track our collective investigation.
You should have received an email from me inviting you to become a contributor to this blog. The email was sent Monday afternoon to your official Drexel email address.
