Welcome...and initial guidelines...

This blog will be used in the spring of 2008 by 80+ students at Drexel University to investigate the effects of Iraq on culture and the reverse. Our goal will be to better understand why the US is in Iraq, and to question whether literature can help us on this journey.

Weekly plans and other materials will always be posted in Vista, not this blog. So go to Bb Vista to get the discussion prompts and other instructions.

I intend this blog to manage our discussions and track our collective investigation.

You should have received an email from me inviting you to become a contributor to this blog. The email was sent Monday afternoon to your official Drexel email address.

How Do You Feel?

When I was searching for two articles, I figured that if I looked for some sort of report or article from another nations news source. I honestly don't really know how other countries or cultures view the war in Iraq. The report given on the MSNBC website speaks about the likelyhood that the U.S will begin to pull troops out of Iraq. The report also says that the President has very little time left in his term but he has no intention on pulling troops for Iraq, quite the contrary he is trying to hold on to the support he does have on keeping the troops there. The report also says that the worry about pulling troops from Iraq is that chaos will emerge, worse than what it already is. Many Americans are against keeping the troops there, but the feeling is also that now that the Americans are there, they will never be able to leave anymore peacefully then the way they arrived.
The comparison came from a blog on the BBC News channel website, BBC is the main news station in Britain. The blog asks the question about people's opinion, whether agreeing or disagreeing with President Bush's policy. The question also adresses how people feel this war has impacted the world as a whole as opposed to American news which often just asks about how people feel the war will impact America solely. The blog I think is a good source because there are replies from people that are all over the world. The first entry that I see comes from a blogger who is from Hong Kong. The second blogger lives in the Unoted Kingdon. This is my favorite entry because the blogger gives two options but does believe that one is better than the other. The blogger says that the two choices are to either, secure peace and pull out slowly or create an establishment and continue to place Americans in Iraq to secure the peace over time. I think its awkward that this person believes in both of these options because I think that many Americans believe in one or the other. I think that because this is an outsiders opinion that makes all the difference. This person can step back and see the pros and cons of both sides whereas Americans are often extremely one sided.
