The first article is about an attack in the city of Sadr district of Baghdad. The article summarizes the attack by giving detailed information about the figures involved. When American troops entered the city to control areas used by Shiite militias, it tuned out to be a fight. The reports confirmed that at least three American soldiers were killed and thirty one were wounded. This has been the worst record for the past couple of months. Twenty Iraqi causalities were reported too. The employees who work for New York times have seen the attack as one of their vehicles have been a few yards away from the attack. This article states the government’s position after the attack too. The reporters have focused more on numbers as it is written for a daily news paper.

The second article is written for a blog and it discusses the Sadr’s militia attacks in several cities in Iraq. The troops have claimed that they won’t surrender under the present government conditions. They are trying to justify their acts before the law. The fights have not been limited to the city of Sadr. In accordance with this situation the government has formed a committee to find solutions to this matter. The government has also claimed that Sadr’s militia is a threat to city. This article mainly assesses the present situation in Iraq from a writer’s view thus holding a strong position in terms of facts. It doesn’t rely on statistics as it is written for a blog and not for a news paper.

SENASH
Welcome...and initial guidelines...
This blog will be used in the spring of 2008 by 80+ students at Drexel University to investigate the effects of Iraq on culture and the reverse. Our goal will be to better understand why the US is in Iraq, and to question whether literature can help us on this journey.
Weekly plans and other materials will always be posted in Vista, not this blog. So go to Bb Vista to get the discussion prompts and other instructions.
I intend this blog to manage our discussions and track our collective investigation.
You should have received an email from me inviting you to become a contributor to this blog. The email was sent Monday afternoon to your official Drexel email address.
